To the moon! Or should I say to La Luna

San Salvador is nightlife central for locals and expats alike. Amidst the plethora of nightclubs, bars and restaurants, La Luna shines as a totally unique hangout.

La Luna is built on the idea of showcasing Salvadorian artist and promoting art in its many forms. The restaurant is always changing as new art exhibitions are brought in. There’s live music every night, from classical music to salsa, jazz, and even folk music. Musicians come from all over the country and even all over Central America. Sometimes there’s poetry readings and even workshops to encourage local art. An upcoming event is the one man theatre act featuring Mexican artist Ermis Cruz.

Nahuizalco's Night Market

Once you’ve made it into town, you’ll want to peruse the little furniture shops in Nahuizalco and you should! You’ve got plenty of time to walk around town and wait for night fall when you can visit the night market, a true cultural treat!

At nightfall villagers turn on their lights and illuminate the produce, arts, crafts and food for sale on the many stands. My tip for the night market is this: come hungry! While the crafts and produce are good, the food is great! Not only is it all traditional Salvadoran fare, you are eating it at a nighttime market.

As far as the local cuisine goes some of the most common market choices are los ticucos, which are Read more

El Salvador Music Web-Site

There are all different kinds of music played and enjoyed in El Salvador, and the web-site that brings them all together is musica.com.sv.

Musica.com.sv features typical Latina music, including the more traditional Andina, Cumbia, Folklor and Salsa, right down to the modern-day reggeton (of which I am not a fan… at all.) They also highlight Electronic, Rock (including Latino), Metal, Clasico, Alternativo, Funk, Hip-hop, Jazz, Pop, Punk, and Reggae.

First you search by what style music you are looking for, next you are given groups to choose from, and finallly you can pick the song you want to download.

Musica.com.sv also features a number of albums for download in MP3 format.

In the Light of La Luna

“The moon exerts an extraordinary influence over those who dwell on the earth.” Lu Luna, the moon, in Spanish, lives by this artistic expression. This restaurant and bar located in San Salvador has become internationally famous for its soul, its spirit, and its personality. La Luna is constantly changing, and is as much a statement of freedom of expression and forward thinking as it is a place to grab some drinks with a friend.

This popular spot among locals and foreigners draws the artsy/drama crowd. Its chill, beatnik environment fuels its popularity, and supports its artwork, which is constantly changing. Sometimes there are special displays or concerts and a reasonable cover is charged.

El Roble Hostel, located just 45 minutes from San Salvador, is far enough away from the city to be remote, but close enough to attract visitors looking for the perfect mix of adventure and fun, nature and nightlife. Just a short stroll from the hostel brings you to a beautiful 7 km stretch of practically untouched beach. Nearby Parque Walter Thilo Deininger offers a variety of hikes, plus mountain biking, rapelling and paintball.
