Tips for Taking Taxis in Peru

Taking a taxi in Lima is generally the easiest way for tourists to get around the city. Taxis can be found on every other corner, and the most common cars used are sedans; Toyota Corollas are pretty standard. Seat belts are not standard… you may not even be able to find one in the cab if you want it!

Typically fares are decided at the end of the trip, but I warn against that. The Gringo tax can get pretty high. Ask a local what the standard fare is and try and make sure you agree upon that with your driver.

El Salvador's National Symphony Orchestra

Looking for something to do? How about a night out at the Symphony? If you are in San Salvador between the months of May and December, you have the chance to see the National Symphony Orchestra perform!

The next performances to date are scheduled for September 17th and 18th. The 17th the Orchestra will be performing at the ILC Fepade, and the 18th they will do a repeat performance at the Teatro Presidente in San Salvador. Soloists Juan Castillo and Jorge Ledesma from Panama, Ilse Porres of Costa Rica, and Juan Mendez are sure to delight.

Honduras Travel Tips

Tourism in Honduras is on the rise according to John Dupuis of the Official Travel Guide of Honduras. Luxury villas are being built on La Ensenada beach. In addition the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line is expanding their current dock in order to accommodate full fledged passenger cruise ships.

The Honduran National Congress is encouraging investment in the Bay Islands under the Tourism Free Zone laws. All over, Honduras is getting swept up in the tourism that is coming in full force from North America and Europe.

Searching for something fun to do in San Jose this weekend? Why not try the theatre. The Little Theatre Group is presenting the musical comedy “Nusense” in English at the Laurence Oliver theatre. Performances will be held Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 pm.

Sunday afternoon there will be a special matinee performance at 2:30 pm. For those who arrive early, from 1 pm onward there will be a cash bar and free bocas (fingerfood).
