Tourist Information Center in Mendoza

If you are looking for some leaflets or brochures for tours in Mendoza (as if your hotel didn’t provide you with enough!), then visit the Tourist Information kiosk located at Av. San Martin and Garibalda.

The office is open daily from 9 am to 9 pm, and the staff are quite helpful… if you speak a little bit of Spanish that is. Oftentimes the people staffing the Tourist Information Center don’t speak English, which is pretty surprising considering what a large number of tourists to the area don’t speak Spanish, and the large number of Argentines in the tourism industry who do!

I think that all the ones who speak English have found higher paying jobs… but maybe that’s just Read more

A Visit to Tabacon Grand

One big reason people love to visit Costa Rica is to go to hot springs. You can find a wide variety of locations for hot springs and pricing. Entries to enjoy hot springs can run anywhere from six dollars to sixty dollars depending on what kind of experience you are looking for. In my opinion Tabacon Grand Spa offers some of the best hot springs in all of Costa Rica. People from all over the country come to Tabacon to enjoy the lush beauty of their gardens and relaxing affects of the natural hot springs.

When you first arrive to Tabacon you will have a decision to make. You can purchase just an entry to the hot Read more

American Style Coffee House in Panama – California Coffee

As other traveling gringos will attest to, one of the most missed things on the road is American coffee. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy Panamanian style coffee almost any day of the week, but sometimes, I just need a good old American cup of joe!

That is where California Coffee comes into play.

California Coffee is hands-down the best American style coffee house in Panama. It serves a variety of imported coffees prepared by professionally trained baristas.

If that weren’t enough you can also grab lunch (they serve a fine selection of gourmet sandwiches), satisfy your sweet tooth (scrumptious baked goods) and check your e-mail (free Wi-Fi)! The sandwiches are good, the baked goods are great and the internet connection is Read more

On your way to the Costa del Sol, make sure you stop by the Jaltepeque Estuary, which is located at Kilometer 56 coming from San Salvador, traveling alone the Costa del Sol highway to the beach.

If you visit the estuary make sure you go to La Puntilla where you will see many boats for hire. For up to $50 for larger groups, and less for smaller, they will take you through the mangrove forest to where Rio Lempa meets the ocean. The price is definitely worth Read more

Catedral Metropolitano in Plaza Mayor

Site seeing around Guatemala City is not complete without a trip to the Catedral Metropolitano located in the Old City on 8 Calle and 7 Avenida.

The Catedral was built in the mid-18th century and reflects the Colonial Spanish style. Within Guatemala City it is one of the most recognizable sites and dominates the Plaza Mayor in the Old City, where it is located.

The inside of the Catedral is amazing, and tours are free and open to the public, so it is definitely worth the visit. The ornate church and its many idols are a major attraction for history and religious buffs.

The Catedral is open for tours from 8 am – 12 pm for tours, and again from 3 pm Read more

Gringo scores a great little Italian restaurant in San Francisco Panama

It was Monday night and a fair amount of my regular haunts were closed. So the Gringo pulled our his handy Movistar phone and started calling his amigos in the ex-pat community of Panama City.

One thought was L’Olivo Restaurante in the San Francisco section of PC (close to Jimmys).

In short – great menu, great taste, great service, and great prices. About $8 to $10 for a large pasta serving in a very pleasant atmosphere.

Check it out on next trip to Panama!

El Salvador's Best Beach and the Bahia del Sol Hotel

Out of all the beaches in El Salvador, the most prestigious has got to be Costa del Sol. It is filled with large beach homes, and is a popular destination among locals and tourists alike. In comparison to other popular beaches in Central America, however, you will be happy to know that Costa del Sol is still not as packed, developed, or over priced!

Costa del Sol is located at kilometer 66, southwest of San Salvador, in the La Paz department. There are three beaches in the are: San Marcelino, Los Blancos, and Costa del Sol. The sailing and fishing in this area.

Stay at a Farm in the Andean Mountain Chain

It doesn’t sound that glorious… staying at a farm tucked into one of the valleys of the Andes Mountain Range, but at the Finca Arco Iris you get to truly experience the beauty of the Mendoza region.

The Finca Arco Iris (The Rainbow Farm, in English) is located about two hours away from Mendoza City. While the city is fun, and the tours of the area are great, it is at the farm where one can finally relax and just enjoy the magnificent scenery, as well as the simplicity of live in Mendoza.

There are 3 comfortable bedrooms at the lodge with queen size beds, and one room with two double beds. Each bedroom has it’s own bathroom. There is Read more

Finally! A real mall in Costa Rica!

When I first arrived to Costa Rica and people said, “Would you like to go to the mall?” I found what I was thinking is completely different than what they were thinking. I was thinking of a two or three story building with tons of stores and a movie theater. What they were thinking of was three mom and pop stores right next to each other in an outside plaza. So when someone told me about Escazu Multi Plaza Mall I thought it was just going to be another compilation of mom and pop shops. I was so pleasantly surprised when I arrived.

In the Multi Plaza you can find a wide variety of shops. On Read more
